8. Mandela's Third Wife Graça Machel Has Been First Lady Of Two Nations... Both Mozambique And South Africa

Mandela married on three separate occasions and went through two divorces - first of all to Evelyn Ntoko Mase (1944-1957), and then to Winnie Madikizela (1958-1996). However, his final marriage was to Mozambican politician and humanitarian Graça Machel (pictured above, right), who he wed in 1998 and was partnered to until his death in 2013. Interestingly, Machel became the First Lady of South Africa between 1998 and 1999 after marrying Mandela - but she had already served as the First Lady of Mozambique between 1975 and 1986 having previously been wed to President Samora Machel until his death.
