18 Problems Only Artists Will Understand

12. Having Doodles Turn Out Better Than Formal Pieces

What is it about the casualness of a number two pencil and a scrap of paper that makes for such incredible art? It's equal parts awe-inspiring and infuriating. On the one hand, who knew that you could produce something so magnificent with so few simple materials? On the other, WHY can you not work this well when you're sat in a studio with all the materials you could ever desire and time designated for creation? Is a formal setting too much pressure or something, or is the universe just playing a cruel joke on you? Whatever it is, it's an unexplained yet totally real phenomenon. At least it gives you an excuse to keep on doodlin' on.

11. People Thinking Art Classes Are An "Easy A"

Art students of all levels are bound to meet at least one insufferable person who waltz into an art course bragging about their cleverness in choosing a "blow-off" class. What these people don't realise is that this practice isn't just annoying, it's insulting. Really, people? What you're basically saying by calling art a joke of a class is that all the people who choose art as their passion are slackers, jokers, or people who don't possess enough abilities to do something "real." And that is not okay. Give artists the respect they deserve.

10. Being Unable To Make A Drawing Symmetrical

It is ridiculously frustrating when one half of a piece is perfect but you can't for the life of you make the other side match. You go through the same process and the same motions using the same materials with the same lighting- absolutely everything about the situation is the same as before, except for the result. Instead of having two lovely, symmetrical sides, it's like you've taken a Van Gogh and mashed it with a Picasso: both sides are exciting and interesting in their own right but, together, it's a bloody disaster. Ugh. Back to square one.
