Logging onto Facebook can be a dismal experience when were broke, bored and lonely and yet our friends are posting pictures of exotic holidays and expensive food, but we must remember that were as honest on our social media accounts as a pathological liar pulled over by police. Societys obsession with celebrity culture has made us all want to be the stars of our own lives, and as such were extremely choosy when it comes to what we share online. The result is a world full of people who, judging from the selfies they upload, spend their time jetting around the world, dining in the finest restaurants and living a life blissfully free from humdrum responsibility. Yet we know its fake, a construction designed to mimic the exciting lives of celebrities because normal life went out of fashion around the time the Kardashians learned how to work Twitter. Its a shame for often the most ordinary things in life are the most touching, those small things that dont have a price tag attached: a home-cooked meal, pile of autumn leaves or sunset over the treetops.
