12. Clinton Was Sent To North Korea In 2009 To Broker The Release Of Two US Journalists
American journalists Euna Lee and Laura Ling were imprisoned in North Korea for illegally entering the country from China - and so in 2009 Clinton travelled to East Asia to try and broker their release. With ex-President Jimmy Carter having made a similar trip in 1994, Clinton met then-North Korean leader Kim Jong-il, who agreed to issue a pardon to the two journalists. Clinton is renowned for his brilliant diplomacy, and he has since been named United Nations Special Envoy to Haiti.
