At least there are some super hero costume fans who recognise that they might not be the best equipped for a fully lycra costume, but there's still some disparity between the image of America's great protector, and a portly man with friendly eyes, and a soft smile. And really, choosing jeans to top off the ensemble wasn't the best move, since it sends mixed messages about just how casual this Cap is supposed to be. There is now a grand - and frankly odd - tradition of costume makers using the empty boxes of beer bottles to make their outfits, in some no-doubt YOLO-inspired commitment to the party gods, which they think makes them look super neat. The reality is that the beer box superhero is now one of the oldest, and least welcome cosplay cliches: there's been no development and no evolution on that front for years, and no amount of posing with twin vodka and redbulls is going to convince anyone otherwise.
