14. Bush Appointed The First Ever African-American Woman To A Senior Cabinet Role In The History Of The US

Following his successful re-election in 2004, Bush made an extremely progressive move - particularly for a Republican President - by appointing Condoleezza Rice as the 66th US Secretary of State. In the process, Rice became the first female African-American secretary of state, only the second African-American to hold the position in general (after Colin Powell, who was Bush's first appointment to the role), and the first-ever female African-American to be given a senior Cabinet role.
