3. He Helped Design British Military Uniforms And Safety Equipment

Conan Doyle had done extensive research into military uniforms and armaments in the late-1800s and early-1900s, so as a result he was sent to the trenches during World War I by Lloyd George and Winston Churchill. Sent on mission to the British, French and Italian Fronts, Conan Doyle returned with many ideas - and as a result Navy personnel latterly became equipped with rubber lifebelts and their ships with dinghies, while Army infantry were given flat bullet-proof helmets.
