As the world becomes more connected, the number of different human languages has declined, and will continue to do so.

The lingua francae of the early 22nd century are likely to be a combination of Mandarin, English and Spanish, as more people focus on learning these languages to get ahead in a globalised society. Mother tongues may become second languages and ancient and rural dialects may die out entirely. The vast majority of the population now live in megacities and urban sprawl.

This said, translation technology may render the learning of another language entirely pointless, with real-time integrated translation going on in both digital and real-world interactions.

This said, humans are still the masters of technology rather than the other way around as we begin to see the limits of AI in more creative and emotional capacities and appreciate the merit of embracing both.
