27 Magical Places To Visit Before You Die

17. Zhangjiajie National Forest Park, China

China is home to blossoming, diverse, and stunning landscapes, but perhaps none so remarkable as that of Zhangjiajie, with its majestic waterfalls, imposing canyons, lush foliage and the natural sandstone-quartz pillars that loom over horizon. Often shrouded in fog or cloud, evoking a certain mystical quality, these distinctive pillars formed through natural erosion are hallmarks of Chinese landscape and are over 1000m tall at their highest, towering silently over the verdant forested scenery. Creating panoramas so beautiful, calling to mind ancient Chinese paintings, the Zhangjiajie stone pillars are more than just beautiful; they are otherworldly, their fog-cloaked peaks inspiring the floating Hallelujah Mountains of Pandora in the 2008 film Avatar.

16. Galapagos Islands, Ecuador

Famous for Charles Darwin€™s study of its various endemic species contributing to the theory of evolution, the Galapagos Islands are a paradise of truly unique wildlife, ideal for anybody who adores nature, whether it be from a scientific standpoint or otherwise. Exploring the Galapagos is rewarding in that it is remarkably well-preserved, in a conscious effort to keep the human footprint to a minimum, and feels truly untouched. With striking landscapes and natural landmarks, visitors can immerse themselves in the wildlife: from snorkelling with sea lions and dolphins to coming face to face with delightful sea birds and turtles, the Galapagos feels like an alternate universe where the animals go about their lives, supremely unconcerned and mildly interested by the humans, raptly attentive, in their midst.
