27 Magical Places To Visit Before You Die

15. Plitvice Lakes, Croatia

Plitvice Lakes National Park is home to a beautiful series of sixteen lakes, interconnected by waterfalls and cascades surrounded by caves and picturesque wooded hills that make it the epitome of European natural beauty. These were formed by water flowing over limestone and chalk, depositing travertine barriers eventually forming the characteristics of the Plitvice Lakes. The unspoiled forests of the park are the flourishing home to bears, wolves, deer, and more, as well as hundreds of species of birds including eagles and owls; butterflies fly freely in flocks across the park. Several wooden boardwalks around the park allow visitors to explore further and drink deeply the natural wonders surrounding them, where each lake has its own story to tell.

14. Salar de Uyuni, Bolivia

Salar de Uyuni is the world€™s largest salt flat at over 10 000 square kilometres, formed by the drying out and geological transformation of prehistoric Lake Minchin. It's notable for its exceptional flatness and the wide expanse of land and sky that make the Bolivian landscape so remarkable. Because of its flatness, Salar de Uyuni floods in the rainy season, and with a thin enough layer of water it creates €œthe world€™s largest mirror,€ reflecting the sky and all else in a breathtaking vista that appears as though earth and sky have joined as one.
