After Gambit was thoroughly wasted in X-Men Origins: Wolverine (though Taylor Kitsch, to his credit, did well enough with what he had), he's back and rebooted with Channing Tatum this time taking the reins in his own standalone movie, which should prove the in for him to appear in future X-Men films. While there's an understandable amount of skepticism as to whether Gambit will actually release in 2016 considering that it won't start shooting until at least the spring and will likely require extensive post-production, with Tatum as the lead and Doug Liman (The Bourne Identity, Edge of Tomorrow) directing, there's a lot to be excited about. On the downside, it's being written by Joshua Zetumer (2014's Robocop remake), but perhaps with a less-incendiary property he might be able to weave better results.
