In an attempt to extend the Harry Potter brand even further, this adaptation of J.K. Rowling's spin-off novel (which she wrote the screenplay for herself) is the first of a planned trilogy of movies starring Newt Scamander (Eddie Redmayne) as he witnesses a fleet of magical creatures set loose in 1926 New York City. The cast is great (also including Katherine Waterston, Dan Fogler, Samantha Morton, Ezra Miller, Colin Farrell, Jon Voight and Ron Perlman), Potter director David Yates is back and it's going to print money no matter what...but will it actually be any good? With so much talent attached and Rowling's source material being well-regarded, it's looking very promising indeed.
