5 Quick Tips For Writers First Starting Out

3. At Least Try And Be Originaladaptation Okay, so you want to write a book, it€™s going to be great, with Orcs, Dragons, Trolls, magic swords and wizards that fight great daemons in the blackest of black pits... wait, that€™s just Tolkien rehashed. Never mind then, you€™re going to write a story about a young wizard who€™s parents are killed and he needs to prove himself to the other wizards of the world so that he can... damn. Okay, scrap the magic, we€™re going to have a buff hero that only carried a sword around, doesn€™t know any magic, and is quite promiscuous with the local women of the towns that he€™s saving from the evil barons... Be original, come up with something that€™s new and exciting to the people of the planet, and make it a main theme too while you€™re at it, not just a random nod to a new type of magic that makes your feet turn green and start singing the national anthem. You need to create worlds, and destroy them, then re-create them and see what you€™re left with. Don€™t be one of the writing machines from the Ministry of Truth.

I spend far too much time trying to find things to fill that time. A little about me, so I'm a writer at heart, hence the reason I'm here, in the future I intend to be a published author, but that's quite far off yet. I'm an opinionated sod, with views ranging from the current state of politics to how Stargate is a far better show than Star Trek.
