5 Reasons The Wizard Of Oz Is One Of The Most Progressive Books Ever

1. No One Ever Complains About The Women In Charge

When Dorothy eventually moves in with Ozma, she becomes a Princess of Oz, (which further strengthens the relationship argument, just saying). Throughout the entire series, only three men ever rule any portions of Oz: the Wizard who ruled the Emerald City, the Scarecrow, who took the throne after the wizard, and the Tin Man who ruled the West Country after the Wicked Witch of the West. Everyone else in a position of power is a woman. No one ever makes a fuss about that, or questions their ability, or qualifications to rule.

When Dorothy became a second Princess of Oz, no one was yelling in the streets about how it was wrong that there should be two, or that the implied relationship was immoral. Instead, the people were either exuberant, or just didn't really care. The people accepted it, and went on with their lives, as normal.

I only hope we here in the U.S. can someday reach that same level of acceptance.
