7 Things The Victorians Loved To See Beside The Sea
2. Band Stands
Alongside the rise of the British seaside resort, the Victorian Era also saw a large boom in popularity of the brass band. This led in turn to the bandstand being a must have for any respectable seaside resort. Like piers, bandstands varied greatly in appearance depending on which town they were built in. The basic design of a bandstand was the same, with a roof, open sides and lots of space around it for people to come and sit to enjoy the music.
A common sight on a Victorian bandstand was as Oompah Band - so named due to the oom-pah sound made by deep bass instruments played by members of the band.
