1. Being Negative Is Literally Killing You

Perhaps we should have said this before you started reading an article about the most depressing things happening right now, but you live and learn.

Aside from the occasional impossibly sunny, optimistic person (who is probably hiding a deep, twisted secret), most of us are incurable cynics - or at least enjoy the odd moan every now at again.

The research shows, however, that not only does your bad attitude ruin family gatherings, but it could be literally shortening your life.

Besides persistent negativity literally rewiring your brain, research also shows that even one short burst of anger is so stressful that it can impair your immune system for hours afterwards. Long term stress and negativity can lead to more serious problems such as skin conditions, high blood pressure, heart attacks, and stroke. A study in 2009 even found that, out of the 100,000 women they looked at, the most cynical participants were more likely to have heart disease than the least cynical folks

So maybe just chill out a bit, okay?
