During this year's annual New York Film Critics Circle Awards dinner, McQueen accepted an award for the universally praised film but was allegedly heckled by Armond White, who had panned the film in his review. White called McQueen "an embarrassing doorman and a garbage man," confusingly, and "f**k you. Kiss my ass." White's heckling continued for as long as the director was on stage, but he didn't rise to the critic's attacks, instead ignoring him. It's unclear why White would want to make such a spectacle of himself, but he was later kicked out of the Critics' Circle for his behaviour, which he vehemently denies he was responsible for.
