The Northumbrian Princess had her heart broken and it wasn't because of the boy that she fell in love with, it was because of her father. His disapproval of the boy triggered a series of events that started off with the young couple being separated and the boy was sent abroad for seven years. They were not allowed to have any contact with one another and the father thought that this absence would make her forget about her sorrow. The girl begged her father to bring him back every day and when she was unable to think of anything else but him, her father told her that he had forgotten about her and had married another woman overseas. In an attempt to cheer her up, her father made her a pink dress because, stereotypical. Unable to get over her lover's marriage, she killed herself by jumping from the battlements of the castle. Her lover returned from his exile after seven years, searching for her. He never loved another woman and his marriage was a lie. He was left devastated. It is said that the girl returns to the castle every seven years wearing her pink dress, crying through the corridors of the castle all the way down to the shore where she looks longingly at the sea, waiting for her love to return.
