9 Answers To Science Questions You All Had As Kids

1. Do Whales Have Belly Buttons?

Yes, whales have belly buttons.

You might already know this if you googled it straight after reading the intro.

All placental mammals who give birth to live young will have a belly button where their umbilical cord once was.

Nearly all types of mammals have this, with the exception of marsupials like the kangaroo (which are an infraclass of mammal), and monotremes like the platypus that lay eggs but are still mammals.

Interestingly, whilst humans are born head first due to our body shape, but whales and other marine mammals are born tail first to prevent the baby whale from drowning.

The baby whale then grows up into a teenage whale, rebels and gets the aforementioned belly button pierced, much to the horror of its father.*
