5. Suicide By Self-Removal Of A Pacemaker
Okay, this one is a bit of a downer.
Getting any kind of implant doesn't just have an impact on the body, but the mind too, and sometimes the patient can struggle to adjust psychologically to the presence of a foreign object in thier body, particularly if their life depends on in and especially if they already have a history of psychiatric disorders.
In this case, a 70-year-old man, who had a history of bipolar disorder, committed suicide by removing his own pacemaker, which had been keeping his heart beating since it was implanted two weeks previously.
This method of suicide is rare, but not completely unheard of in patients with a crossover of psychiatric diseases and medical implants, with a few cases described over the years.
