9 Outstanding Female Comedians Funnier Than Amy Schumer

2. Amy Sedaris

It says a lot when you star alongside Stephen Colbert and Paul Dinello in your first TV show, and are still referred to as the funny one. But that’s just par for the course when you’re talking about Amy Sedaris. A true Renaissance woman, Amy acts, tells jokes, excels at sketch comedy, writes both teleplays and books, does voice over, and sings a bit, too.

Amy’s probably best remembered as Jerri Blank, the 46-year-old prostitute junkie who returned to high school in the popular cult TV show, Strangers with Candy. However, since those days, she’s sculpted quite the impressive resume. Her electric personality has led to constant exposure on television as well as a slew of supporting rolls in motion pictures of all genres.

Since Strangers with Candy, Amy has for the most part steered away from that in-your-face style of comedy, replacing it with a more laid back presentation with pockets of energy that spring up when least expected. This creates a powerhouse of comedy capable of writing a twee book about makeshift crafts one minute, providing the vocals for a humanoid cat person in Bojack Horseman the next minute, and appearing in three unrelated Netflix projects the minute after that.
