9 Scientific Explanations For Famous Bible Stories
1. Jesus Rising From The Dead
Yeah, okay, but Jesus came back from the dead, explain that one, atheists.
The resurrection of Jesus Christ does seem like a true miracle, until you realise that people come back from the dead all the time. In a time when medical science extended about as far as "it's probably a punishment from God", the understanding of the human body wasn't great, so we can excuse them for not being able to tell whether a person is actually definitely dead or not.
In the 20th century, people were so worried about being mistakenly pronounced dead that they invented the safety coffin - a device that allowed one to signal to the surface that they had been buried alive by ringing a bell. We still get it wrong nowadays and there are plenty of stories out there of people waking up at their on funerals and scaring the living daylights out of their friends and families.
The highly traumatic execution method of crucifixion that Jesus suffered would most likely have caused him to lose consciousness and appear death-like before he actually snuffed it. After he appeared dead, he was buried hurriedly according to Jewish law, which dictates that dead bodies cannot be left exposed overnight.
This law is so important that even the dead bodies of criminals would have been quickly taken down and buried before sunset, making it pretty easy for grieving relatives to miss tiny life signs in the rush.
Being taken down from the cross, having his wounds cleaned and dressed and being laid down for a well deserved rest may have been all it took for Jesus to begin to recover from his ordeal.
We don't know whether Jesus was just the ultimate prankster and decided to scare the hell out of people once he woke up to find himself entombed and embalmed a few days later.
Still no idea how he ascended into heaven though, aliens maybe?
Yeah, probably aliens.
