Harry Potter: 10 Plot Points That No One Will Ever Agree On
5. Harry Should Have Died
Harry deserved to live. No one argues that. For all that he'd lost and been denied, he deserved to live in a world where he wouldn't have to worry about Voldemort. Still, Harry surviving can be considered something of a cop-out. "Neither can live while the other survives" was a pretty bold statement that--if he wanted to win--Harry would have to die as well. It could have even been bittersweet--Harry would never have gotten to live his life, but he would have finally gotten to be with his parents. Ron and Hermione had each other. Ginny was still young. They would have been okay eventually. Harry could have died, and the final book could still have been great. The only arguable question is whether or not such a twist would have been better.
"'But...' Harry raised his hand instinctively toward the lightning scar. It did not seem to be there. 'But I should have died--I didn't defend myself! I meant to let him kill me!'"
Fiction buff and writer. If it's on Netflix, it's probably in my queue. I've bought DVDs for the special features and usually claim that the book is better than the movie or show (and can provide examples). I've never met a TV show that I won't marathon. Follow on Twitter @lah9891 .
