JFK 50th Anniversary: 10 Things You Didn't Know About President Kennedy

1. His Lincoln Limo Served 13 Years After His Death

Jfklimo1 JFK's midnight blue Lincoln limousine is perhaps the most iconic vehicle in history. Splattered by the president's blood and skull fragments, many thought it would be taken away to be destroyed in November 1963. Not so. It was in fact still used as part of the presidential motorcade a whole 13 years after his death. After Kennedy's assassination the Lincoln car was cut in half and stretched by several feet, and was installed with new leather seats, a PA system, telephone and roof, and was also made bulletproof. After being fully rebuilt, every subsequent President up to Gerald Ford used this vehicle, while successor Lyndon Johnson insisted it be painted black. Records suggest LBJ was never comfortable using the car, for very good reasons. The original windshield from 1963, damaged by a bullet during Kennedy's assassination, remains in the National Archives in Washington, DC. What interesting facts do you know about JFK?
