10 Most Important Things That Will Happen In The Next 20 Years
1. War
For the longest time, war was about boots on the ground, weapons in hand and whoever had the most people left alive at the end wins. War has already changed significantly since the end of WW1, with insurgency and terrorism replacing foot soldiers and frontlines.
We live in an age in which there is currently only one real superpower, making the possibility of a clash of giants pretty remote, but it is likely that future generations will look back on this age as an anomaly.
We are on a dangerous path now, with the rise of both China and Russia as real world superpowers on the cards, the increasing amounts of paranoia and aggression displayed by the US military cannot shut them down forever and could lead to a clash of nations, the style of which has not yet been seen in the 21st century.
There is then, of course, the question of who will wage these wars. Warfare is becoming ever more mechanised and it's only going to get more so as time goes by. War is no longer the glorious quest it once was and changing attitudes has made it unacceptable to send young men to die in their droves on the battlefield. This means that the development of remote technology could mean that robots may soon be fighting the wars for us.
The only question that remains then is that, in a war fought by machines, who will be the human casualties that we count to find out who won?
