6. Giuseppe Rossi

Loans have worked for Newcastle over the years - Helder was brilliant and Loic Remy was a massive help to not getting relegated last year - but there have been some temporary players who were utterly forgettable. That much could be said of Giuseppe Rossi, the Man Utd striker who joined at the start of the 2006-07 season and scored just one goal. Given how little he did for the club in 13 appearances in total, it's unsurprising he's hardly memorable, but since then he's gone on to become a major European player with both Villarreal and Fiorentina. What a poor assessment. Thankfully, Newcastle United weren't the only ones to mess up their chance to take advantage of the now-obvious talents of Rossi, as Manchester United basically gave up on him without ever giving him a fair crack of the whip. The fact that they sent him to Newcastle on loan - where he was kept mostly on the bench - could hardly have helped their assessments either...
