10 Talented Players Who Failed At Newcastle

7. Jon Dahl Tomasson

At the height of his powers, Jon Dahl Tomasson was undoubtedly a world-class striker, but unfortunately for Newcastle fans, they never got close to seeing the Dane's best form. Tomasson had big boots to fill after signing as a replacement for Les Ferdinand in 1997, with further pressure added when Alan Shearer was seriously injured before the campaign had even begun. While with Dutch side Heerenveen prior to joining Newcastle, Tomasson was producing top-class displays and notched an impressive 18 goals. With three league goals in 23 games at Newcastle though, the Dane was shipped out after just one season. He later went on to join Italian giants AC Milan, as well as scoring 50 goals for his country; no mean feat. Perhaps The Magpies let Tomasson go to soon?
