Cameroonian midfielder Geremi came to Newcastle United with serious pedigree, joining from the then-dominant Chelsea in 2007. The two-time Premier League winner was renowned for his combative style, free-kick ability and general versatility. Geremi could operate equally well at right midfield, right back, or in central midfield. The one-time Real Madrid star was made captain by Sam Allardyce upon joining the club, but never showed enough to deserve the honour. The return of Kevin Keegan to the club saw Geremi stripped of the armband as it was handed over, controversially, to Michael Owen. Geremi's Newcastle career bore 49 league appearance and just two goals. A talented versatility player, yes, but at Newcastle he only ever teetered somewhere between underwhelming and solid.
