6 Shock Revelations From Kieron Dyer's Time At Newcastle

5. He Consciously Chose Not To Pass To Lee Bowyer

In the years since Lee Bowyer tried to pop Dyer's head off on the pitch in 2005 at the climax of a disappointing defeat to Aston Villa it has always been assumed that the reason the former Leeds man exploded was thanks to Dyer's refusal to pass an easy ball to him. According to Dyer, that much was indeed true, but the reason Bowyer lost his rag was more to do with what he'd said when challenged about his refusal to pass, and that it wasn't the first time:
"We were playing the game, he came short and wanted the ball and I passed to someone else. He was like €˜Give me the ball€™ and I was like €˜I haven€™t given the ball away, what you talking about€™. Five minutes later he came again and I gave it to somebody else. €œAnd he said, €˜You never pass to me!€™ I said, €˜The reason I don€™t pass to you is because you€™re **** basically€™."
So, that suggests that Dyer consciously chose not to pass to Bowyer, which gives a bit more context to Bowyer's explosion.
