7. Alan And Keith Kennedy
S&>/S&> and Barratts/EMPICS SportAnother left-back, Sunderland born Alan Kennedy (above) had more of an impact at Newcastle than Ron Guthrie, joining the club in 1972 (and all but ending Guthrie's time at the club), playing 158 times in the league and scoring 9 goals before becoming another step in the long history of Liverpool signing Newcastle's best players. He left the club having lost the FA Cup final in 1974 and the League Cup final two years later in 1976, though he was part of the Texaco Cup winning side in 1974/75. At Anfield, Kennedy became a legend, scoring two winning goals in European finals (in 1981 and 1984). His brother Keith, also a left-back, enjoyed a far less auspicious career, making just one appearance for the Magpies, before moving to Bury, where he played 405 games, and scored 4 goals. Keith's son Tom currently plays for Barnsley.
