8. Ron And Chris Guthrie
In the long and storied history of players to have played on both sides of the Tyne/Wear divide, left-back Ron Guthrie is one of the more famous for the Black Cats, having played in the successful 1973 FA Cup final - the run to which included his only goal for the club. Ron started his career at Newcastle in 1963 and went on to make 53 league appearances for the club, scoring two goals in the process over a ten year period that saw him play largely a supporting role for the club. His brother Chris, ten years his junior, signed for Newcastle in 1971, towards the end of Ron's tenure at the club, and though he would make his name at lesser clubs like Southend and Swindon Town, the forward did make 3 appearances for the Magpies without scoring a goal. After retiring, Ron joined up with former Newcastle team-mate David Craig on a milk-round business.
