Man Utd: Wayne Rooney's 5 Greatest Goals From His 200

3. Chip Vs Middlesbrough

Rooney enjoyed another goal-laden season in the FA Cup but this time in 2005. Just one season after being signed by United as a promising teenager, Rooney had stepped up to the plate and proved he has what it takes to compete at the very highest level - especially with this goal. The opposition was Middlesbrough, the venue Old Trafford, the man of the moment? You know the answer to that. Defender John O'Shea had put United ahead with an unlikely goal but even the rarest of goals from the Irishman was a mere footnote by full-time as Rooney scored two belters, both of which could have made this list. The first, which comes in at No.3, is the most audacious of lobbed goals you're ever likely to see as the striker brilliantly chipped goalkeeper Mark Schwarzer from fully 40 yards out. A sumptuous volley from Rooney would later make it 3-0 on the day, but even that goal wasn't enough to usurp THAT lob from our list.
