Newcastle Transfers: 5 Deadline Day Deals That COULD Happen

3. Clement Grenier Joins From Lyon

Shortly after agreeing to sell Yohan Cabaye to Paris Saint Germain, Newcastle made a bid for Lyon's attacking midfielder Clement Grenier, who Alan Pardew has identified as a replacement. However, the Magpies have been rebuffed in their advances for the 23-year-old, and despite making a 'substantial bid', their offer was rejected. Grenier is similar to Cabaye in that he too possesses technical qualities and is known for his free-kick taking abilities, and has been earmarked by Pardew as the Frenchman's successor. With time ticking down on the transfer window, it remains to be seen if Newcastle make an improved offer for Grenier and there will be many fans out there hoping they do. The departure of Cabaye was a big blow for the north east club though that would be somewhat softened should the Lyon man made a dramatic deadline day move. Grenier is versatile and can play on the right side of midfield, as well as in the attacking midfield position just behind the striker, which would give Pardew plenty of attacking options.
