Assuming Remy's injury hasn't developed since he scored his last goal for Newcastle, there's a good suggestion that if Newcastle pushed a deal through for the striker they would be getting the same player as they had on loan last year, and that means some exciting individual stats. Last season, Remy managed a shot accuracy of 49% - the same as Daniel Sturridge, had a better goals to games ratio than Wilfried Bony and most importantly scored 14 goals in 24 starts in the Premier League, accounting for a massive 34% of all of Newcastle's goals all season, despite missing 14 games. And it is that qualification that matters most here: some might say that no striker who is injured should be signed, but if Newcastle can get 24 games out of him next season, with the new supporting midfield talent they've brought in, and the opportunity to score more goals, he will still be worth the gamble if he is injured for the other 14 games. Yes, it might be considered a short-term mentality, but Newcastle have Perez, Campbell, Armstrong and Riviere for the longer term, and what they need is goals immediately. That is surely worth a bit of a punt. Do you think Newcastle should try to sign Loic Remy? Share your thoughts below in the comments thread.
