10 Greatest Star Trek Convention Moments
5. Take Your Stations
The 2016 Destination Star Trek Europe convention at the NEC in Birmingham (UK) was rather special for a couple of reasons. First, and certainly foremost, TrekCulture's very own Clive Burrell was there and, given the fact that most of those restraining orders had lapsed, he was allowed within mere inches of the gaggle of Trek alum gathered for a press conference and individual interviews. Second, that year marked a monumental milestone — 50 years of the series — and to celebrate, there was not only cake, but a reunion on the bridge also decades in the making.
As Clive tells it, he was shoehorned with the rest of the press into the reconstruction of the OG Enterprise bridge, but just managed to squeeze his way next to George Takei for photos of a moment that saw Walter Koenig, Takei (at the helm/navigation), and William Shatner 'back together on the Enterprise' for the first time since 1989! Behind the Captain's chair stood an array of Star Trek actors from across the 50 years including Marina Sirtis, Garrett Wang, Jeffrey Combs, Terry Farrell, Armin Shimerman, Connor Trinneer, and the list goes on.
Also, when our marvellous colleague asked Shatner a (very good) question — "Is there anything you would change about Star Trek 50 years on?" — he got a very stark answer: "How could you possibly be so callow as to think you could change something?"
Sick burn from Kirk there, Clive. I think that means you're fired.
