Two legendary captains come face-to-face with the man that killed one of them.

That may sound like the blurb from one of William Shatner's follow-up novels to Star Trek Generations, but this was the scene for Montréal Comic Con 2012's 'Reunion of the Generations' panel. Shatner, in his hometown no less, was accompanied on stage (of course) by Patrick Stewart, and then later by Alexander Siddig's uncle, and no fan of watches, Malcolm McDowell.

Shatner and Stewart clearly had a chemistry that transcended the professional — the pair had been on a 'caleche' tour of the city before the convention, shared their love of motor racing, and dealt each other light-hearted jibes throughout. Completing the Veridian III three, McDowell joined the stage all too briefly, but he did comment on Kirk's rather "naff" death.

Shatner opened up about the time, suffering from stomach flu during a one-man show on Broadway, he boldly 'went' on stage. He also revealed that both he and Stewart were wearing women's lingerie (less chafing) for the horseback scenes in Star Trek: Generations.

Nearing the end of the panel, one fan asked a question about gay representation in Star Trek, which got a bit of a muddled response until he followed up with "What about Data?" All that mattered for Stewart was that the android was "fully functional" with "three speeds," according to a Brent Spiner joke set to the three rising notes of the Alexander Courage Star Trek opening fanfare.
