10 All-Time Great Netflix Original Series

1. Bojack Horseman

BoJack Horseman
Netflix

Who is Bojack Horseman? What is Bojack, even? This is a show that is fundamentally difficult to explain to people when you want to get them to watch the show. It's marketed as a comedy, but while it has plenty of hilarious moments, it also features heavy doses of pure existential crisis, and details the heartbreaking struggle of characters who desperately want to change but just can't bring themselves to do so.

It hits every level of comedy, from sexual misadventures that wouldn't feel out of place on Two and a Half Men, to world class wordplay (Neal McBeal the Navy Seal who is an actual seal, anyone?), to utter absurdism, like the fact that Princess Caroline spends the better part of a season romantically involved with a character named Vincent Adultman, who was "very obviously three kids stacked on top of each other under a trenchcoat".

Most comedians will tell you that it's hard to get into comedy without some degree of self-loathing, but it's rare that a show that is outwardly so funny wears its main character's hatred for himself so proudly on its sleeve.
