10 Amazing Doctor Who Moments You've Probably Never Seen

4. The Fall Of Arcadia

The Last Great Time War is often perceived as this colossal, universe-destroying battle that exterminated entire races, brought great civilizations to their knees, and shook planets to their cores.

And while it certainly was all those things, nothing has captured the true horror of the war quite like The Day Of The Doctor did, showing us images of ordinary Gallifreyan civilians - young children among them - being blown to pieces amidst a Dalek assault.

Oft-forgotten minisode The Last Day provides a similarly focused, ground-level look at the Time War, albeit from the perspective of your average Gallifreyan soldier. Here, we follow this soldier from battle-prep to deployment, as he eventually bears witness to the beginnings of The Fall Of Arcadia - which is, supposedly, the safest city on Gallifrey - at the hands of the Daleks.

Aside from giving us a small inside look at Gallifrey's military machine in action, The Last Day is a fine reminder of all the innocent, ultimately helpless individuals who gave their lives in an effort to win the Time War. "Gallifrey falls no more."

Danny has been with WhatCulture for almost nine years, and is currently Doctor Who Editor and WhoCulture Channel Manager, overseeing all of WhatCulture's Whoniverse coverage. He has been writing and video editing for 10+ years, and first got a taste for content creation after making his own Doctor Who trailers and uploading them to YouTube (they're admittedly a bit rusty by today's standards). If you need someone to recite every Doctor Who episode in order or to tell you about the making of 1988's Remembrance of the Daleks, Danny is the person to ask.
