10 Amazing TV Comedies On Netflix You Need To Binge-Watch
7. Archer
As shows like The Simpsons, South Park and Family Guy have proved, animation can be a very liberating tool when it comes to pushing what can be done with a comedy series. Away from the constraints of live action, animation is a medium which allows for completely over the top scenarios freed from the usual budgetary constraints. There are hints of American Dad in Archer, which revolves around American spy organisation ISIS (an acronym which has since been removed from the show, for obvious reasons) and the exploits of Sterling Archer and his cantankerous, over-zealous mother Malory. Their Oedipal relationship is Archer's backbone, but like American Dad much of the humour comes at the expense of the American intelligence establishment and can be seen as something of a commentary on the post-9/11 political landscape, deliberately - and absurdly - mixed up with swipes at Cold War paranoia. It's also full of genuine laugh out loud moments of inanity and a string of sexual innuendos and puns which are just as likely to make you groan as they are to make you laugh (often both at the same time). And when it comes to the one-liners no one does them better than Sterling.
