10 Amazing TV Shows That Became Unwatchable

1. The Umbrella Academy

Even in a time when the film and TV industry was dominated by superhero and comic book stories, The Umbrella Academy stood out. Based on the books by My Chemical Romance's Gerard Way, the show was an unmitigated success in its first season, and arguably got even better in the second.

The danger was that the narrative always flowed around the idea of time travel, and while the first two seasons navigated this incredibly well, it began to wear a little thinner in season three. This, and making a multiversal version of Ben (Justin H. Min) the villain really didn't work. However, compared to season four, season three was a masterpiece.

You could argue that no show has fallen off the rails quite so much between two seasons as The Umbrella Academy. It went from a compelling, time-travelling romp to a thrown-together, shorter season that both felt wildly underdeveloped and rushed at the same time. Absolutely nothing worked, from Diego and Lila (David Casteñada and Ritu Arya) turning into boring parents, to Sloane's (Genesis Rodriguez) mysterious disappearance in season three never being addressed.

The worst part was easily the horrifically forced romance angle between Lila and Five (Aidan Gallagher), which was the cherry on top of a story that just didn't work at all. It felt like season four was produced just for the sake of it, and honestly, the series would have been better ending on season three's cliffhanger than what the fourth season ultimately offered.
