10 Amazing TV Shows That Began As Mid-Season Replacements

5. Quantum Leap

There are some actors who are so warm and likeable and comfortable that watching one of their old shows on reruns sort of feels like coming home. Scott Bakula is one of those actors, and Quantum Leap is one of those shows. The premise of Quantum Leap was that a man was forced to travel through time, where he would have an adventure in each new time period before jumping to a new body, hoping that one day he would end up in his own body and time. The show was immensely popular and aired for five seasons, but it didn't always have high hopes for success. Despite the current popularity of American Horror Story, anthology shows aren't always a huge hit with audiences. When NBC picked up the show, it ended up airing as a late season replacement, and only had eight episodes in its first season. But it quickly won over audiences and critics alike, and was showered with awards during its five-year run.
