Corpse Party: Tortured Souls can only be labeled as Saw or Hostel done in anime style.

A group of classmates find themselves in a haunted school where they must find a way out or suffer a horrific fate at the hands of the spirits stalking them.

Graphic violence can only take something so far, and that's especially true when that's all a story has going for it. There is nothing of substance, no character, narrative, or theme, to latch onto, it's just one disgusting death after another.

While sickening for even the most seasoned of horror fans, after the first few kills, you'll find yourself tired of the monotony.

You'd think a series as short as this would have some re-watch value. Four episodes can be knocked out in no time, but that doesn't mean there's a good reason to go back to it, or even finish it once in the first place.

It's not for the reason the anime wants either, as its hope seems to be using its extreme gore to put the viewer off. Instead, it's just tedious and tiresome to the point of fatigue.

There are few things as boring and uninteresting as edginess for the sake of edginess, and that's all Tortured Souls is.
