Now it's time to discuss a little thing called isekai. For the uninitiated, isekai is a genre where someone is transported from the ordinary world into a fantastical one. If proving your worth as an anime was a track race, then being an isekai would give every show a penalty that causes a late start.

While there are some great ones, it's still a genre known for being a shallow power fantasy for young boys with harems, fan service, overpowered characters and lacklustre storytelling galore. Thus, this weird anime seemed like it would be dead on arrival.

Saga of Tanya the Evil depicts the events after a man dies in the real world and is reincarnated as a little girl in an alternate world at war. Despite only being a kid, she uses her retained memories to climb the ranks.

As if being isekai wasn't bad enough, the show also has to contend with every character being vile and unlikeable. Despite this, you'll get hooked on the unique world, as this isn't your ordinary World War - unless yours had magic guns and flying humans.

The use of magic in a WW2 setting is creative and leads to some pulse-pounding action sequences. Plus, Tanya herself is a blast. She certainly is a reprehensible little gal, but you'll still get invested in all the chaos she causes.
