As the series youngest ever Doctor, Matt Smith gave the brand a kick ass punt up the posterior. Steven Moffat's casting masterstroke was bringing us a truly unique man who looked young and old at the same time. Together with youthful assistants Karen Gillan and Arthur Darvill the energized show finally crossed the "Pond" big time.

The Big Bang formed the conclusion of what many regarded as a victorious renewal of Who. It bombarded viewers with a giant Rubiks cube, a companion brought back as an Auton, and a raft of special guest appearances from a selection of the Doctor's finest adversaries. And the Judoon.

However it's best you don't try and recapture the euphoria by watching the episode again. As a tying together of the various themes in the run it doesn't make a huge amount of sense. Rebooted universe? Couldn't quite get my head around that one. There's a sense the whole affair is being kept afloat by Moffat's infinite talents as an intergalactic extemporizer.
