In this scene, Walt decided to kill all of the prisoners who had knowledge of the meth operation, in case any of them turned informant. The tricky part here was the fact that the prisoners were spread out between several prisons. Due to this, all of the prisoners had to die within 2 minutes, in order to prevent any of them being moved to protective custody. Cue a two-minute frenzy of over-the-top, shiv-based violence.
