While sports dramas are fairly commonplace in the realm of movies, it's not often we see it done quite as expertly on television as Friday Night Lights.

Starring a young Taylor Kitch and Michael B. Jordan, Friday Night Lights is inspired by the book and 2004 film of the same name. The show follows the Dillion Panthers as they navigate the treacherous waters of high school football, dealing with all manner of dramatic fodder that we've since come to expect from all teen dramas. Friday Night Lights was able to cultivate a passionate fanbase as well as some critical acclaim after two seasons, but low ratings caused studio NBC not to renew it.

A fan-led campaign to save the show involved sending lightbulbs to the studio, as well as eyedrops - a reference to the show's catchphrase "clear eyes, full hearts, can't lose" - and NBC remarkably buckled to this very odd sort of pressure, impressed by the fans' passion for the show.

The studio struck a deal with satellite company DirecTV to co-produce the show, and Friday Night Lights aired for three more seasons before ending in 2011.
