10 Best Animated Comedy TV Shows On Netflix Right Now
9. Disenchantment
Coming from the godfather of animated comedy himself, Matt Groening, Disenchantment features his trademark style taken in a whole new direction.
Said to have been inspired by classic works of fantasy by Philip K. Dick and Ray Bradbury, as well as the Harry Potter and Game of Thrones series, Groening and showrunner Josh Weinstein wanted to implement that way of storytelling and world-building into the Futurama universe. If you pay close attention, you can spot several homages and Easter eggs relating to Fry and the crew.
But, like I said, Disenchantment is different from both Futurama and The Simpsons. It was conceived as a story with a beginning, a middle, and an end. The story develops gradually and gets deeper with every episode, making it perfect for a binge-watch. It is also centred around a female character and has a strong feminist point of view.
The leading characters are voiced by Abbi Jacobson and Eric André, but you will definitely hear a few familiar voices pop up here and there, including John DiMaggio, Billy West, Noel Fielding, and many others. There are currently 40 episodes available (released as two seasons with two parts each), with Weinstein hinting that it could go up to 60 before it concludes.
