10 Best Animated Horror TV Shows Of All Time
2. Death Note
Easily one of the most beloved and important anime TV shows of all time, Death Note follows the everyday mundane existence of student Light Yagami who stumbles upon a supernatural book that grants him the power to kill anyone, anywhere in the world, just as long as he writes their name within its pages.
Death Note started life as a manga in 2003, and was written by Tsugumi Ohba. As great as Ohba’s story proved to be, it would be the artwork by Takeshi Obata that proved the most unforgettable element.
Ohba’s twisted tale sparked a fire within Obata to create Ryuk, a bored god-like creature that pulls Light’s strings like a puppeteer throughout the story. The character is brought to life perfectly for the TV show and remains one of the most enduring images in pop culture.
The true horror in Death Note is not so much the ten-foot tall demi-god but the corruption that comes with true power. Light believes he is killing to rid the world of evil, but at what cost does this power come to those he holds dear? We can’t judge him though.
After all, what would any of us do if you were gifted the powers of a god?
