10 Best Brooklyn Nine-Nine Episodes
2. Moo-Moo
The show has a unique ability not only to discuss issues of policing, but also important messages about racial profiling. This was a subject that thus far had not been addressed until the tragically emotional, yet still highly humorous episode, Moo-Moo.
Terry is out searching for his daughter's teddy bear when he is stopped by a police officer who treats him like a criminal and handles him unfairly. Ultimately it is a horrific case of racial profiling that Terry wants to rectify, but rather unexpectedly Raymond recommends that he does not report it. Alongside this tragic story, we see Amy and Jake babysitting Cagney and Lacey, and learning some of the struggles of parenthood.
The balance of drama and comedy here is handled to perfection and is the show's best approach to juggling something severe and funny. But what makes this episode so powerful has to be the extensive attention given to the issue at hand. They achieve this through the confrontation Terry has with the officer post-incident and the incredibly insightful discussions with Holt.
The show really uses its position to try and educate viewers and raise awareness about the problem. An episode that takes on such dark but relevant subject matter in the guise of comedy is impressive, and that's what makes this one so good.
