10 Best Cliffhangers Of Modern Doctor Who

9. The End Of Time Part 1

Doctor Who The Impossible Planet
BBC

Another entry utilising The Master, although there is no shock twists here, just the realisation of a shocking plan and the welcome (albeit brief) return of the iconic timelords. The first episode is solid enough, although the concentration on The Master eating people to sustain his energy gets a little repetitive after a while.

But the conclusion of the first of two parts proves to be Doctor Who at its finest, with a cliffhanger that appears to end the human race while also hinting an even greater evil from the returning timelords. The reveal of The Master's horrific plan is horrifying in itself, using alien technology to transform all human beings into a version of himself. John Simm plays up this scene with his usual manic flare while David Tennant manages to bring the impact of the atrocious act to resonate with the audience with a single glare.

The impending return of the timelords is the cherry on top, with former 007 Timothy Dalton's portrayal of Rassilon brilliant in its animosity and authority. The moment when he chants to his fellow timelords that they will be saved by the end of time itself, sends a chill down the spine while having us eagerly awaiting to watch the concluding chapter.

While he likes to know himself as the 'thunder from down under', Luke is actually just a big dork who loves all things sport, film, James Bond, Doctor Who and Karaoke. With all the suave and sophistication of any Aussie half way through a slab, Luke will critique every minute detail of films and shows from all eras- unless it's 1990's Simpsons episodes, because they're just perfect
